TV with backlight

This designed is in my own home, specifically to work with a govee dream view backlight kit. The finish uses a custom semitransparent paint made from mica powder and polyurethane.

Much of my house features this cream colour, which was pulled from the tyndall stone fireplace and exterior. I love Tyndall stone, it’s true Manitoba treasure. The grey colour way from our stone is a nice warm neutral tone, and I always check it to see what fossils I can find.

I plan to add other murals to my home overtime, so I wanted something more neutral that wouldn’t fight with other designs. A geometric pattern felt like a good fit, and I like how the hatch marks are a subtle nod to Japanese design. I’ve loved Japanese art and culture ever since I visited Japan in high school. I often pull inspiration from Japanese design when I want something interesting but not overpowering.

Back lights also add a really fun ambiance, I really just wanted to emphasize the lights. The cream tone is subtle enough that it doesn’t affect the colour of the RGB strips, so I knew didn’t want to add any colour here. The fun part about shimmer paint is how it plays with the light. The way the RGB backlight is reflected is nothing like how eggshell wall paint reflects light. Every time the TV is on I get this cool play of lights.
