These are located in one of the treatment rooms. Line art silhouettes were chosen to complement the abstract wallpaper in other rooms. These figures reference the contemporary nude art in the various lobbies and seating spaces.
Spas are a very intimate place. I wanted to be respectful of the vulnerable nature of many of the treatments. My goal was to create a calm and peaceful space while also reflecting the more risqué humour used in their other art. Turning the figures away from the viewer helps them to feel more passive. The poses themselves are also soft and relaxed. The figures don’t have any tension in them, reinforcing a sense of calm.
I was especially inspired by the hand stool. I love the idea of the hands holding her bum. This is a solid match for the spa’s cheeky humour.
