Faux marbles use a variety of techniques, such as ragging and sponging. Wet on wet applications allow for softer transitions, while a wet on dry technique can give crisper layers with more distinct colours. Veins are often added by hand after the background layers have been completed.

Each colour used can be matched to actual samples, allowing for a faux marble that blends in with authentic pieces. Fauxs are a perfect choice for restoration work, where replacement marble is unavailable or would take away from the historical value of the piece.
